About Us

Background

Yan Chai Hospital has served the people of Hong Kong for over forty years. Under the unfailing leaderships of our Board of Directors, Yan Chai has thrived from a single hospital providing medical services to a well-established charitable organization offering wide range of services. Today, we continue to carry out our mission “Serving the Community in the Spirt of Benevolence” and have expanded our services to include medical, education and social welfare services, with service units all over the territory.

School Overview

Our Centre, established in Kwai Tsing District in 1977 , is Yan Chai’s first child-care centre. It was named “Tung Pak Ying Child Care Centre” to recognize the generous sponsorship of Mr Tung Pak Ying, the former permanent advisor of our Board of Directors. In 1998, the Centre was relocated to Shek Lei (1) Estate under the urban redevelopment scheme and continued to serve the community and nearby districts with quality childcare services. In September 2005, it was renamed “Yan Chai Hospital Tung Pak Ying Kindergarten/Child Care Centre” under the governance the Education Bureau. The school currently offers full-day education and caring services for 140 children of age 2-6. Besides regular services, we also offer Integrated Programmes, Occasional Child Care Service as well as Extended Hours Service.

Community collaboration

We have a proven history of making use of or collaborating with community resources, such as the natural environment, community facilities, school and community organizations, volunteer groups to enrich our children’s learning. In addition, the school will take initiative and invite people from all walks of life to participate or collaborate in events, such as community education, festive celebrations, elderly caring activities, so as to broaden the children’s exposure and socializing experiences. In the process, children can better understand themselves and interact with family and society.

School social worker

Since 2009, the school has set up a school social worker service program to promote teacher-parent communication and parent education through games, lectures, and workshops. We aim at enhancing parenting skills and healthy growth of children. The social workers will also provide case counselling and parent support for families in need.

It takes a village to raise a child, in which the families and schools should work closely. The following are means of communication with parents:

  • Daily chats and communications
  • Telephone contacts
  • Student Handbook (for parents and teachers)
  • Parents Newsletter
  • Children's Learning and Family Performance Assessment
  • Parents meetings will be held for each grade
  • Parents' Day is held every six months

Parent volunteers

The school has set up parent volunteers programme. Parents are invited to join various activities at school, such as Mum and Dad Storytelling, visit Home for the Aged, Flag Day and art activities e.t.c.
Parents’ participation will improve children’s learning effectiveness,  establish a communication channel and promote Family-school cooperation.

Education Seminar

We organize educational seminars every year to create opportunities for our teachers to learn from the educational experts and also exchange ideas and experiences. This enhances the professionalism of our principal and teachers and promotes the quality of our education services.

Foreign exchange

To further enhance the professional development of the kindergarten/ child care centers, with the assistance of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government and the Special Administrative Region of the Central People's Government, we organize exchange activities for our principals and teachers to meet with mainland/ overseas preschool education operators to better understand their pedagogies for students with different cultural and family backgrounds. These exchanges broaden our teachers’ horizons and improve their teaching skills.

School - based training

In line with the school-based training objectives, the entire school participated the "All-round Art Education for Young Children" course organized by the Hong Kong Children's Fine Arts and Education Association. As follow up, we incorporate the aesthetic elements into our curriculum so as to enhance the arts sense and appreciation of our students.
